Life is not a dress rehearsal

“I’ll get it later or tomorrow”
Recently I had an opportunity to spend some time with one of my “good” girlfriends of more than twenty years. A well educated professional woman with a fun spirit and an amazing sense of humor. However, she is one of the world’s greatest procrastinators. A day dreamer that believes there will always be an opportunity to do something later, be it completing a project or following up on a lead that could change her life.

You may know a person who thinks that “tomorrow” is a guarantee or know someone who lives by the credo “I’ll get it later or tomorrow.”

Well tomorrow is right now, tomorrow is not guaranteed, life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it. The stage is set and it’s show time for you. I expressed to my friend that everyday God gifts you with life and breath, provides you yet another chance for your encore performance. Prepare now to be the star of your own stage play. Nike got it right when they said, “Just do it.” So write your book, travel the world, fly a plane, bungee jump, start a new career or change the one you have.

For everyday that goes by and you don’t live your dream is a lost opportunity to leave your legacy and your imprint on the universe. For everyday you fail to move closer to your dream is a day lost and you will never get it back, you’ll find yourself trying to play catch up with that part of your life that has passed you by.

Many have taken their dreams to the grave waiting on tomorrow. Make today your day. Know that this time in your life is precious. Protect and cradle it and treat it with compassion and a wild sense of urgency. Be it a child of seven or an elder that has been blessed to be seventy do that “thing” that will make up happy. Life is not a dress rehearsal. What will you do with your life before your final curtain call? In spite of it all know that it is all in divine order.
