What started as a hobby at the age of 9 has turned into a business for Destiny Young. |

Young, now 19, is developing a jewelry collection for women. Plans are to sell her jewelry in area stores and boutiques as well as hair salons.
The emerging entrepreneur plans to open a jewelry store by her 25th birthday and to take shoppers through a unique shopping experience.
“When I make the jewelry I look at it to see if it is something that I would wear,” Young said. “I imagine it on someone else and I wonder if I would want to wear it of I saw it on them.”
Her mantra in designing is shown in the creativity of each item. Whether a bracelet, necklace, earrings or ring, there are no two pieces that are the same. Each piece is distinctive in style and stone choice.
Raquel Hunter, who has been purchasing jewelry from Young’s collection for more than a year, said the items are unique and of good quality.
“I wear a lot of jewelry. I always have something on and I buy hers because it is durable and one-of-a-kind,” she said.
Hunter has also bought items from the collection to give as gifts to others.
“I get a lot of my ideas in my dreams,” she said. “I will be sleep and I see it, so when I wake up I make it, or I will see a design but I modify to make it my own and add my creativity to it.”
Earlier this year, Young made bracelets for attendees at a women’s conference. The pink and pearl bracelets were given away to each lady, much to their delight.
“When I made them, I wanted all of the women to walk away with a sophisticated and dainty bracelet,” Young said. “I made the bracelets to match the theme.”
Destiny’s Jewelry Box also supplied necklace sets for a wedding during the summer. The entire wedding party wore the designs.
At age 17, this interest in jewelry has motivated Young to seek to become a business owner. She is planning for a chain of stores that she hopes will open in the next ten years, the first by her 25th birthday.
Hunter added that she purchases from Young because she is a budding entrepreneur.
Young will host a jewelry showing on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Comfort Suites Hotel,
