Trumpeter extraordinaire Marcus Belgrave has performed and
recorded with some of the giants of the music industry, including Ray Charles,
Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Charles Mingus and B.B. King.
She may not be a household name, yet, but Ursula Burns made news
of international significance July 1, when she assumed the CEO position for
Xerox Corp., making her the first African- American female CEO of a Fortune 500
Company. She succeeds Ann Mulcahy, who remains chairman of the Xerox board.
These words, long associated with the United Negro College Fund,
are as relevant today as perhaps any time in our nation's history. And that is
why hundreds of people throughout the community are expected to gather Aug. 15
on the Detroit River Walk for the 21st annual UNCF Walk for Education.
